AVIATION FOR Girls 2016 21 T he Eagle's Next Project is relatively new, with the first plane being built at Jennings County High School in North Vernon, Indiana, from January 2010 to July 2012. The airplane was the first light-sport air- craft (LSA) to be built in a school, and was the first experimental light-sport aircraft (E-LSA) to be approved and insured for flight instruction. The experi- ences learned during the build of this project became the basis for the broad- er program, which is now nationwide and ac- credited for both high school and college credit. The mission is simpleā€”to encourage students to pursue careers in aviation through the process of building an airplane. By building the plane, students learn leadership, craftsmanship, and personal responsibility. In addition to the charac- ter-building aspects of the project, students who actively participate in the program through com- pletion of the aircraft receive 20 hours of dual flight instruction free of charge. So far the program has seen seven airplanes completed, with three more in progress across the United States. Students at Circle Christian School had to apply to participate in the course.
